DonationSwap

Give what you already planned. Multiply what your favorite causes receive.

A small tool for family and friends who already plan to give — to catch employer-matching dollars that would otherwise go unclaimed.

Here's the idea

Say you plan to give $1,000 to Charity A and $1,000 to Charity B this year. Your employer matches gifts to Charity A dollar-for-dollar — but not Charity B. Your sister plans the exact same $1,000/$1,000 split, but her employer doesn't match anything at all.

If you swap who covers what — you give your full $2,000 to Charity A, she gives her full $2,000 to Charity B — you both still give exactly what you planned, and neither charity ends up worse off. But now your employer matches your entire gift instead of half of it, so Charity A gets $1,000 more than before. Nobody gave an extra cent. That $1,000 was just sitting on the table.

Before

Charity A: $3,000
Charity B: $2,000

After

Charity A: $4,000
Charity B: $2,000

DonationSwap just helps you and people you trust find swaps like this one.

Your money never passes through DonationSwap.

Every donation goes directly from you to the charity you choose — we only help you and others agree on which charity that should be, so more of what you already planned to give can be captured by employer-matching programs.

What this is

  • A coordination tool for people who already plan to give
  • A way to catch matched dollars that go unclaimed
  • Built for a small circle who already trust each other

What this isn't

  • Not a charity — we don't accept donations
  • Not a payment processor — we never touch your money
  • Not financial or tax advice
  • Not a finished product — this is an early experiment

Companies set aside real money every year to match employee donations, and a lot of it reportedly goes unused — not because people don't want to give, but because figuring out which charity gets matched is invisible unless you go looking for it. DonationSwap just makes that visible for people who already trust each other, so more of what everyone was already going to give ends up doing double duty.
